Happy Hump Day lovelies! Today I’ll be sharing the details of my first week participating in the 90 Day Healthy Hair Growth Challenge started by Adeea of The Trendy Socialite. Before we jump into my routine using the loc method, let me give you a rundown of what the 90 Day Healthy Hair Growth Challenge is.
What’s the 90 Day Healthy Hair Growth Challenge?
As the name implies, the HHGC is simply a three-month commitment to starting and/or maintaining healthy hair care practices that focuses on both the inward and outward parts of growing hair. Participants are encouraged to eat healthy foods, drink plenty of water, develop and stick to a routine that requires low manipulation and try protective styles.
Also as the names implies, this challenge is for both relaxed- and natural-haired women and men. Whether your hair is chemically straightened, texturized or in its naturally wavy/curly/kinky state, you can join in the fun.
By signing up for the challenge (TheTrendySocialite.com), participants were emailed a link to a closed Facebook group, where Adeea will post an e-book with weekly guides and tips. So far, dozens of group members have posted their starting lengths and goals. I talked about my year-long hair goals in this post, but I’ll reiterate a few things for the sake of this challenge.
Week 1: Healthy Hair Growth Tips
- Drink at least 64 oz. water DAILY.
- Choose your wash day, if you don’t already have one. Consistency is key.
- Deep condition when you wash.
- Stock up on fruits and veggies (this is for next week’s challenge).
My Week 1 Progress:
I’ve incorporated more fruits and veggies in my diet this week, but slacked in the water department. Group members Tishea and Tyrnesha had great suggestions to set hourly reminders or download phone apps to help you consume water. I’m going to do that now (like, right now).
My wash day is Sunday. This past Saturday, I applied TRESemmé Moisture Rich Conditioner in Luxurious Moisture to dry hair and allowed it to penetrate over night. I’ll do a complete review in a few days. However, I can say that I won’t be doing that again.
Here’s my unofficial starting length(s). In the coming week I plan to have my ends trimmed and bangs cut.
The above picture was taken last Wednesday, January 15, the first day of the challenge. The picture below was taken Sunday at the Women in PR event. That morning, I washed and styled my hair in two strand twists.
